Nicholas Ben Diaz

Nicholas' sister tells Nicholas' story.

Hi! My Name is Crystal and the story that I'm about to share is about my little brother Nicholas. Nicholas was born on May 31, 2004 and I was very excited him being my first sibling, it was a very joyous moment for the whole family. Nicholas was born a healthy baby, so we thought. Anyway two days later My mother and him were allowed to come home this would be his first time in his house and the whole family was very excited. Then as the day went on we notice Nicholas eyes weren't open but that was common for newborns and the other thing was that Nicholas cried non-stop which is also common for newborns so we didn't think anything of it. The next day we notice he wouldn't drink his milk and just cried and cried.  My mom still didn't feel right about this I guess you could call it mothers instinct.
That following morning Nicholas felt very warm to both my parents so they decided to take him to the E.R . As soon as they got there he was admitted to the hospital with a fever of 104, and to an adult that's high but for a newborn that's incredibly high, anyway as they did a spinal tap test on him they found out he had E Coli Meningitis, which is a bacterial infection and is very harmful to newborns. My brother spent 1 and a half months in the hospital on antibiotics, he is now two years old and you wouldn't think he went through what he did and even though there are still long-term effects to meningitis we take it one day at a time and thank God each and everyday for our miracle baby.

Thank You,
Crystal Diaz and Family
